EPA Completes Second Five-Year Review

EPA Completes Second Five-Year Review
Because the Lowry Landfill is a Superfund site undergoing a prescribed containment remedy, federal law requires that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) review the site every five years to ensure that the remedy remains protective of human health and the environment. With cooperation from the State of Colorado, other regulatory agencies, local officials and the general public, EPA completed the second Five-Year Review in February 2007.  The report from that Five-Year Review confirmed that the remedy “is functioning as intended” and “is protective of human health and the environment.”

For more information, an executive summary of the Five-Year Review report can be found in the PDF document below. The full report – along with the first Five-Year Review, completed in 2001, and related addenda – can be found on the EPA’s Lowry Landfill website. Hard copies of the report can also be found on file at the EPA Superfund Records Center at 1595 Wynkoop Street in Denver (303-312-6473), and at the Aurora Central Public Library at 14949 East Alameda in Aurora (303-340-2290).
