There is an ongoing groundwater monitoring program at Lowry Landfill to verify that cleanup and containment efforts remain effective and protective. Over the many years that the site has been investigated and remedied, hundreds of wells have been drilled and used to monitor the movement and contaminant of groundwater contamination beneath the site. In addition, hundreds of borings have been drilled into the site so that removed soil could be tested for contaminants.
In 2005, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved an updated comprehensive groundwater monitoring program for Lowry Landfill. The updated program ensures that groundwater containment efforts remain successful and in compliance with water quality standards.
